First off, thank you all for your congratulations, encouragement, and kind comments regarding my weight loss! When you’ve worked really hard for something, it means a lot to get good feedback and pats on the back. I truly appreciate it!
The following songs are theme songs for my life, but they don’t necessarily match one particular era of my life. Let’s do this!
1.Happy by Pharell – does this really need any explanation? This song MAKES me happy. I am such a fan of people being happy, coming together, smiling and spreading joy. I ran to “Happy” this morning and listened to it probably five times. Another reason I love this song and feel like it’s a theme of my life? “Happy” is the name of the perfume I wore on my wedding day. Sounds like a plan to me!
2.Every Minute by Sara Groves – Oh, this song. Can I just please say how much I love Sara Groves? And her music? I have listened to a lot of Christian music and so much of it is boooooooooooooooooriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. Groves’ music is not. You know why? Because she keeps it so real. There are no cookie cutter lyrics with this woman. Instead, she really lays it out there – stuff nobody seems to want to sing about, but stuff everybody goes through at one point or another: marital problems, people drama, all kinds of things.
In “Every Minute” you really hear her vulnerability, and I can relate to it so much. I love this part:
“And I wish all the people I love the most, could gather in one place
And know each other and love each other well
And I wish we could all go camping and lay beneath the stars
And have nothing to do and stories to tell”
I feel that song with a million, trillion feels.
3.Follow Through by Gavin DeGraw – Such a great song. I wish Dan and I had danced to this at our wedding reception, but I think I was afraid it would sound bossy or demanding instead of lovey-dovey. In hindsight, that was pretty silly. You should just dance to the song you love because you love the song – and the person you’re dancing with! Anyway, check the live version of “Follow Through”.
4.I’m Not Who I Was by Brandon Heath – One day I was driving along in my truck when this song came on the radio, and I. CRIED. SO. HARD. In fact, every time I hear this song – including five minutes ago – I weep so hard I almost need to breathe into a paper bag. If I ever write a book, it will be at least partly about the many extremes I’ve lived in my life, the brokenness, how God is always redeeming me from my mistakes, and all the laughs in between. This song is a song that I’ve wished I could sing to different people at different points in my life, for sure.
5.I Shall Not Want by Audrey Assad – Man, this girl knocks it outta the park! Every time. This song is so raw and so real..it’s really such a deep prayer.
How many times have you felt the awful feeling of jealousy or pride or unrighteous anger or unholy fear? You know when it hits you so hard, all you can do is beg God to take it from you? This song is for you (and me).
I love Audrey’s music, and I love her story, too. And I’m just gonna say it right here: AUDREY, LET’S HANG OUT. You and me on a duet, please. Or I can just sit there and listen to you sing, whatever.
So there you have it, my friends. Five fave songs that have meant a lot to me in my life.
So come on, Five Favoriters! Can’t wait to see what you;re sharing this week!:)
